Southern Ocean Sea Band

Port Fairy’s own Southern Ocean Sea Band have been taking audiences on journeys into local historical stories and legends for eight years now. They were born directly from the late Danny Spooner’s annual Shanties at the Wharf sessions. Inspired by their hometown, they produced and released their epic debut album ‘Blood & Bones & Fins & Glory’ in 2017. The large and revolving line-up have since toured throughout regional Victoria, spreading their love of songs and shanties far and wide.

Over the years the band have performed with Steve Poltz and Rebecca Barnard at the Pogues Tribute show in 2018, a historical walking tour in 2019, teamed up with the Warrnambool pipe band for a Scottish celebration show in 2020, in 2022 we dedicated a memorial concert to Kate Gane.

In 2023 the band launched their second album ‘Into the Blue’. In 2024 SOSB released a shanty album with the Tin Shed Singers (‘By The Sea Vol 1’) and performed a tribute concert for Shane MacGowan.
