Paul Dempsey’s Shotgun Karaoke
If you’ve ever wanted to let out that inner voice that knows the words to every song then now is your chance. Paul’s recent national tour included sold out shows at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth, the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, the Thebarton Theatre (Adelaide), the Palais Theatre (Melbourne) and QPAC Concert Hall (Brisbane).
With the new album ‘Shotgun Karaoke Vol. II’, Paul now has two albums worth of covers to draw from, and with a few additional favourites he is known to add into the setlist, you could be singing along to anything from Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer”, Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time”, R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion”, Patti Smith’s “Because the Night”, Grant Lee Buffalo’s “Mockingbirds”, Concrete Blonde’s “Caroline” or INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart”.
Paul says, “I choose the songs because I genuinely love them and think they would be fun to sing. I sing them with nothing but my acoustic guitar for accompaniment and figure out some way to play them where I’m hopefully covering the ‘vital’ structural elements and then I just sing. Stripping it down to nothing is part of the challenge!”
