LIAN HUSI TIMOR

Lian Husi Timor in English means, ‘Sounds of the East.’ Members of Warrnambool’s vibrant and emerging Timor Leste community created this group for a debut Folkie performance in 2023.

Initially as a way to open the door here in Australia for a unique journey inside their culture, Lian Husi Timor has now expanded to collaborate with other members of the Timorese community around Australia to assist in facilitating similar public performances and connections in other towns and cities.

The group of 15 performers whom are on working visas at an Abbotoir in Warrnambool said after their performance at PFFF last year “Lian Husi Timor is to represent our whole country while we are abroad, we want to help other groups of Timorese around Australia have the same opportunity to present their culture and so we are creating a blueprint for our brothers and sisters to use, Lian Husi Timor belongs to our country now not to us“.

Dressed in traditional tais, belak, kaibauk and using native babadok drums and gongs they will present a moving and evocative collection of traditional Tetun folk songs, perform Bidu & Tebe Tebe cultural dances and share contemporary Timor songs of loss and survival.

The show will culminate in an intimate conversation  on Timor Leste culture, song and the Australian connection.
