Lian Husi Timor
Lian Husi Timor is a vibrant collective of Timor-Leste migrant workers living and working in the Warrnambool region, united by a shared love of music and the desire to keep their cultural traditions alive.
Their name – Lian Husi Timor, meaning ‘Voices from Timor’ – reflects their mission: to share stories of home, resilience, and connection through song. Singing in Tetum and occasionally in Portuguese and English, they draw on the rich choral traditions, rhythmic hand-drumming, and communal harmonies that define Timorese music. Many of their songs honour ancestral stories, village customs, and the experience of living between cultures.
As migrant workers, the members of Lian Husi Timor balance demanding jobs with a commitment to community and creativity. Their performances radiate warmth, unity, and joy, offering audiences a rare window into the living culture of Timor-Leste as it travels across borders.
At the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Lian Husi Timor brings heartfelt energy and powerful collective spirit – an invitation to celebrate identity, belonging, and the enduring strength of community through music.
