Åkervinda (SWE)
Jazz singers at heart, the four members of vocal quartet Åkervinda share a deep love of folk music and give new life to Scandinavian folk tunes through their original and modern interpretations. The group’s second album ‘Forgänglighet’ was nominated for a Swedish Grammis for “Folk Music of the Year” and their third album ‘Sä Skall Hat och Avund Smältas’ won a Danish Music Awards in 2024.
Their music carries light and dark, joy and sorrow, humour and solemnity. It flows between danceable passages and meditative moments, always grounded in the stories and emotions of the folk tradition. Through close harmonies and expressive voices, Åkervinda explores the mysticism, beauty, and rawness of Nordic folk songs.
Their performances offer a space for reflection and connection — a sonic remedy for the heaviness of the world, where ancient melodies become timeless expressions of the human experience. The group has performed at an array of European vocal festivals and folk venues as well as locations throughout Canada and the US.
