Geia is a renowned singer/songwriter, guitarist, and influential figure in the development of contemporary Indigenous music. He writes music of bravery and beauty, telling of Aboriginal life in Australia, of the quest for justice and belonging, of history, family and love.
“I want to promote change and understanding, melodically and harmoniously,” he says, “while still sharing the little known aspects of Aboriginal history.”

 

With a career spanning over 40 years, Joe Geia’s contribution to the arts is highly significant and enduring. As the writer of renowned songs such as Yil Lull and Uncle Willie he remains an active recording and performing artist sharing his Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through music. The Joe Geia Band (Joe Geia: Lead vocals/Rhythm guitar, Ruth Ross Pe’er: Violin; Michael Sunjay Jude, Keboards; Graham Moes; Lead Guitar; Phill McKenna, Bass; Avau Fanene, Drums and Sound, Marcello Milani have recently been touring his show, From Rations to Wages to Treaty to great acclaim.

The band has been together for 5 years and committed to Geia’s music that tells of Blak history and unsung leaders who epitomize the resilience and achievements of First Nation peoples.
